The duke of Stoke Teversault has well earned his reputation for bloodless calculation Indeed recently widowed Georgina Lark has no idea he’s loved her since before her late husband swept her off her feet Stoke Teversault means to keep it that way The cold and forbidding duke and the blithe and open Georgina could not be less suited in any capacity And yet when I don t know why I didn t mark it the first time or apparently WHEN I first read this book but pretty early on I figured out I ve read this book beforeI liked it but it doesn t stand up to Lord Ruin or Not Proper Enough for me Though I did like it than In the Duke s Arms and I think it says something that this is the 4th or so Carolyn Jewel I ve read this week I love love L O V E the smitten heroes and awkward heroes And Stoke is like almost TOO MUCH of both although less so that Foye in Indiscreet which I m currently reading so there is that I felt there wasn t really enoughso much relationship development because it isn t until the end end END where he s all marry me which I don t think is a spoiler because hello romanceBut for SO MUCH of it she thinks he literally hates her that throughout she thinks he doesn t want her there That NOBODY knew not only that he liked loved her but that they all felt he actively disliked herI m curious about Rever and hope he gets his own romance anyway clearly I m on a massive CJ kickC or B I m not entirely sure Also so tired so maybe the fact that I stayed up so late etc reading B

An Unsuitable Duchess

Georgina and her sister arrive at his home his ice bound heart may melt away Georgina Lark has never thought of the duke of Stoke Teversault as a man capable of inducing passion in anyone He’s long disapproved of her but she will be forever grateful to him for his assistance after her husband died It’s been a year since she’s realized he’s not the man she 4 starsI enjoyed this novella which takes place during a regency house party and regatta called the Dukeries Cup The Duke of Stoke Teversault is a stiff introverted man Georgina Lark is an outgoing widow on friendly terms with Stoke s brother as well as with his brother s friendStoke has loved Georgina from afar for years but his taciturn nature makes it difficult for him to communicate that interest to her and he fears that his brother or his brother s friend will marry her from under his nose Georgina is convinced that Stoke dislikes her despite the fact that he came to her aid when her husband died and she was in great need of supportBeyond this backstory and set up there isn t much plot to this novella just a series of meetings and eventually some sex scenes In the hands of a lesser writer it would be dull or clumsy but Jewel writes so well that she makes even small interactions uite compelling and the sex hot Nonetheless I still wished the plot was a little eventful especially near the end because I wanted to see Stoke s romantic feelings for Georgina dramatized in a deeper way
